1985 johnson 15 HP air intake

Hi, I was wondering if there is suppose to be some sort of air filter within the air intake. I took the 4 bolts off from the top just to check the air filter and didn't find any...thanks a bunch!!!

Outboards never have air filters. It's never dusty on the water.

Reminds me of one poor motor I had in my shop awhile back. It had been running fine then simply stalled out. Turns out some mud-wasps had built a nest in the air intake. It was a small nest and didn't cause any problems until the motor ran for awhile and it broke free of the slick plastic . Sucked that gritty mess into the carb and right into the motor itself. I ended up doing a partial teardown of the powerhead to rinse it all out of there. <br /><br />- Scott
