I was looking to upgrade the size of the motor on a 14' starcraft (falcon or holiday i believe) and found a 1985 johnson 25 hp. My first question is whether or not this engine will push the boat pretty quick since it's such a deep v-hull or if I should look for something a little larger. My second question is whether the price seems ok at $750 (it seemed ok to me) with these specs...

Included is the original owners manual, an extra propeller, bunny ears, the gas can, hoses, steering cables, all mounting gear, and the electric start/throttle case assembly. The engine was recently tuned up for routine maintenance and had the carb insides replaced, gear oil changed, new spark plugs, and a routine cleaning and greasing.

Anything I should ask or look for aside from putting it through a tank test before I look into it more seriously?

Thanks for the help I appreciate it

Re: 1985 Johnson 25hp

Sound to me like a good deal. i have a 14' super deep and wide with a side console and it has a johnson 25 on it. With three people and geer it will push about 24mph. I think that will be pleanty of motor for the boat and sounds like a fair price. Just make sure it runs good. It wouldnt hurt to service it with a carb job and change the lu oil when you get it. Empty boat i would gess it pushes it 28-30mph with the right prop
