OK, this is driving me crazy. I just installed a new water pump kit from Sierra in my Johnson OB. Everything went smoothly, but now I've got absolutely no stream whatsoever from my tell-tale/water pump indicator. The only thing I can think of is the key. The kit came with 1 Black wedge key & 1 White wedge key. I used the black. Is it possible that this is the wrong key and causing the problem? Anyone who has experience with this year motor please shed some insight.

PS... I'm not looking forward to loosening that damn screw to disconnect the shift rod underneath the carbs and behind the VRO pump. Anyone have any tricks. It took me forever to do it the first time.

getting it out no but when you go to put it back in put a piece of electrical tape on the head, that will keep it stuck in the socket and also on my engine there is a break in the case on the front of the engine where you can get a pair of needle nose vise grips on the shift rod, helps to get it in the right position.

I know what you mean, I have gotten that in 5 minutes and other times it takes 30, that trick with the vice grips works pretty well though.

Also is this on muffs or in the water, mine will barely pump on muffs but does really well in the water.

Anyone who may run into this problem in the future...Black wedge is for a short shaft (15" transom) White wedge is for the long shaft (20" transom). I tore it all down, replaced the Black key with the White key and BOOM the tell-tale was peeing like a racehorse. Many thanks to KEN!
