Hi!

First of all, I wanted to say that this is a great site, and I'm glad I finally signed up. I just wish it wasn't under these circumstances.

My issue: I have an '85 Mariner 40hp, electric choke, that starts fine, idles fine, and will rev just fine in neutral...but when you shift it into gear, it bogs down and dies. Some days it does it...some days it doesn't. It's driving me nuts!

To add another twist, to get upriver to the fishing hole today, I had to run my kicker motor. As a prayer, I started my big motor to try and help the kicker. Sure enough, it went into gear and ran fine. I stopped, turned off the kicker, and tried the big one by itself. It would bog down every time. It failed every time it was under load, but it did fine when I started with the kicker motor and had forward momentum.

The motors run on separate fuel lines. The big motor gets fuel and revs perfectly in neutral.

Any ideas?
