1985 mariner manum

this motor runs strong yesterday it started knocking but not when idleing....any advice it sounds like its coming from the lower end.

Not enough information.

Model and serial #

Does the noise occur in both Forward and Reverse?

Does occur at all engine speeds in gear(s) or only above a certain RPM?

Have you checked/changed the gear oil, is there any metal particles?

ill go check the serial number it is the 150 mariner magnum II
the noise is only in forward and it doesnt stop when given gas it gets louder.
I did change the gear oil, there was some particals not much.
