So as i go inspecting the boat compartment for lose, or missing things, i come accross this…..

It's under the port exaust manifold, connects to the thermostat housing via 2 inch hose, and out to the transom….the small hose connected at the bottom is not going anywhere, it;s just a 3 inch piece just sitting there…anyone?

P.S…don't mind the fact that the pic is upside down.. ;)

Ayuh,.... That's a power steerin' cooler,...

The Big hoses are the in-comin' raw water, 'n the little hoses are the return oil of the P/S system,...

It's a power steering fluid cooler.

So no water will come out of there into the bilge right…..?
You see, i am freaking out….this part is not important right now since the power steering ram is not working so pump is disconnected. The problem I am having is water being collected towards and under the cabin….I have checked the hull, the high speed pick up..and everything else that I can think of…..I have a live well and a fish box. Live well is draining out through the back drain plug, and the fish box drains via hose into the bilge…I can fix that no problem…but the live well i don't see where its draining through, so is it the case that when I fill the live well up, the water will stay because the drain plug is in place, or will it collect in the bilge too?…I have never used this before so pardon the rant…and long story...

I believe it is a power steering oil cooler. Mine is located under the starboard exhaust manifold on my '82 305.

if the cooler has failed, it can leak.

If you are worried about it leaking.....take a short pc of rubber hose and plug one end with a tight fitting bolt with a worm clamp .... clamp other end on missing hose nipple.

Since your power steering pump has been removed you can remove the cooler. Just get a piece of pipe or use hose and fittings to put the two ends together. The steering hose can be removed. If you put the pump back on you will need to reinstall the cooler.
