1985 mercury 75 HP

I recently changed the stator. It took me 3-4 minutes to get the motor started after that. When I put the boat in the water it would idle fine, go into gear and creep along, but as soon as I give it throttle it would die. I brought it home and checked stator, trigger and cleaned carbs. It seemed to run fine on the water hose but when I put it back in the water the same thing occured. Can anyone help? Thanks

If you disturbed your timing, and it wound up retarded then you would have this problem. I don't have the numbers or how to set it up, but there are 3 or 4 mechanics who frequent this site (that I know of) that do know how to do that soooo re enter the post with a different name and this time ask for help setting the timing on an '85 75hp.

You aren't posting the same thread more than once. You are asking a different question which I doubt violates the site rules.....CharlieB, j_martin, steelspike, silvertip, Bond-o, Faztbullet, and there are others.

I'm sorry for sounding completely ignorant but what is a stator? It just so happens that my '96 Mercury Force 75 is showing the exact same symptoms that you described..... though I have only replaced plugs, wires, starter, and fuel filter... everything runs fine on shore with a hose but in the water I also stall if I put it in gear and give it too much throttle....
