1985 OMC (4cyl) 2.5 L Cobra outdrive is banging

I have a 1985 OMC 2.5 (4 Cyl.) cobra, Runs great after some TLC. Have a strange bang (Like a gear slipping) while operating on the water it's feels like it's bucking once every couple of minutes seems to be getting a little more frequent and noticed a bit of spitting back threw the carb, I have just replaced the interuptor/overstroke switch set in hope's that this will solve the problem. Has anyone experienced this problem, or heard of this problem happening to someone. Or could this be something worse like the clutch dawg slipping, I read in another post something about a OMC recall for a defective milling, or something.

When's the last time you did a tune-up on her? From your description the bump sounds like you may have a spark plug misfiring. The spitting may be related to a carb problem.<br />Oh........welcome to the board...

Ya,thats what I thought, tuned up don't believe it's electrical. I replaced the switch and spitting carb problem stopped, seem's the bumping was jerking the remote shifter, forced the interuptor on and off, causing the engine to backfire at higher RPM"s, but is still banging whenever prop is engaged. I was hoping someone had a similar problem with the older Cobra's, I think it might be the clutch dawg, and with some mechanical background, could I rebuild lower end myself.
