I have a 5l with an 800 stern drive that is a 1985. Well, it is getting more $$ to maintain to rebuild or repair the omc drive. My motor runs very well and to get the drive rebuilt is over $1,300 for the basic rebuilt plus more parts is more. I know how that goes.

Anyways, we love the boat and would like to keep the boat so is anyway to change the 800 omc drive to something else that I do not need to worry about? I just redone the inside of the boat and now I am getting water in the drive oil. Does not leak oil though. But I was told seals need replace and I am sure if it apart might as well as do an entire rebuild.

Another question, If I rebuild the drive (everything) how many more years you think I will get out of it. It was in storage for 8 years so has very little Hrs on the motor and it does start and run like new.

Thanks for any help for this summer.

If it was in storage for eight years the seals probably dried out. And if like you said everything is in good shape runs good just change the seals and it should last a long time. I have a 86 omc that was not run for about five years outdrive was leaking changed seals and it has been all good.

Ayuh,... No Problem,...
All you've gotta do is remove Everything from the V-belt to the Prop,...
Rework the transom to accept a different driveline,...
Then install the 1 of your choice....
