I have a 1985 Evinrude 115HP that is a strong runner. I bought the boat earlier this summer and have never had a problem with it. Last weekend, I launched my boat, started it up, put in FWD and drove it over to the marina to dock it at the store. When I went to shift into N, it stayed in FWD. (I didn't hit too hard, if you're wondering)I am able to control the throttle. When I put it N, I can start it like normal, but the prop spins because it's in FWD gear. When I shift to R, it stays in FWD. When I throttle while in R, it moves forward. I'm thinking that it's just a shift cable. I did notice that the one of the cables coming out of the remote control is starting to fray. Also, it may just be a coincidence, but my tilt/trim gauge quit working at the same time. The hydraulics still worf fine, just that gauge doesn't work anymore. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Remove the engine cover and have someone move the lever on the control box while you watch the shift cable at the engine. If it moves, its not the cable. If it doesn't it is the cable.
