My 1985 Skeeter was left for dead and/or to die. It was left in a field for approx 15 years uncovered but on a Skeeter trailer. Obviously the stringers were mush and the top side clear coat was flaking. It was gutted of batteries, motor, trolling motor etc. The lower unit from the powerhead down was left in the boat, but no powerhead. I have removed all of the stringers that I can get to without removing the cap. I believe I have gotten 95% of the stringers (if not more) and related foam. I have done extensive repairs on sailboats that I have had in the past, so I think I have good experience with wood, glass and wiring etc. I have worked mainly on sailboats in the 36 to 44 foot range. I bought an older Chrysler open bow boat (60's) with a 1985 Merc 75hp with 200 hours on it. The motor is in great condition and propelled the Chrysler to approx. 40 mph on the lake. It has the controls and the steering cable/helm. The steering cable is too long so replacement is needed, and I have to change the helm since the boat originally had dual cables to the 150. The control module on the 75 hp has a key for starting, choke etc. etc. The original control module is also there on the Skeeter, but wonder to the adaptability to the 75 hp Merc.? The key (ignition switch) is on the console of the Skeeter, but missing the key. I would have to replace the key or switch for activation of the electrical components on the Skeeter or ?? I would rather have one key for everything. Recommendations? Thanks in advance, Mike FYI I am retired and quite active for 73 yrs. of age.
