Hello Again!

A few weeks ago i posted about my outdrive that would not shift and cables stuck. Since then ive taken everything apart and found the problem to be the shift housing in the lower to be frozen, to get it off i pulled the cotter pin on the rod and removed the housing. the lower unit shifts perfect by hand. since i do not have the special tool, i have not taken the housing apart but i have got it freed up and moving nicely again. i changed the water pump while it is open and the tilt motor and clutch gear.

my problem is i can not get the housing back on to the shift rod. I put a new cotter pin back on the gear and i do have the proper instructions, here.

http://www.crowleymarine.com/support/tech_articles/omc-stringer-cap-cable-install.html

When i pull the long cable and retract the short cable to set it, it appears that it can not accept the gear as it is spun to the max. I may be able to get it on if i pull the long cable out but it probably would not be aligned properly.

can someone please offer me advise on how to re-attach this housing, this is the last step to getting back on the water!

Thanks,
Lou

You probably got it by now, but there is a you tube video by Wayne Coll (tc electronics) search it on the web . When I needed pictures and video that's where I went. There is a whole video of how to Make that "special" tool you are talking about. For stringer visual tutorials, best I've found.
