I've had my 1985 bass tracker tournament v-17 for a couple of years now. It has an oil injected 70 hp yamaha pt/pt. when I am alone in the boat with a half tank of gas, and not much else in it, I can only muster around 26mph fully trimmed as shown on the speeometer as well as on the humminbird. The rpms are in the 4800 range. it has a 19" pitch prop. on it. For some reason I am thinking this is pretty slow for this combination.
Does anyone have a similar rig? and what kind of performance do you get with yours?
I haven't done anything to the engine other than plugs, temp sensor and lighting coil. I guess the first obvious thing to do is a compression test. What readings should I get for a healthy engine? the engine idles fine and I can troll all day without stalling. Any other ideas?

Mike.

You can definitely get more speed out of her by lowering the pitch of the prop to maybe a 16 or 15. I don't know the max RPM for that motor, but I would imagine it is around 5600. Running at 4800 you have some RPM's to play with. Every drop in pitch will increase RPM's by 150-200.
