1985 WellCraft Cabin Cuddy - Alpha One (350 Motor) - Carburetor Question

Question - Not for sure what it is!!

I've been working on a boat that recently have gotten. I been fixing a lot of little things like wiring, lights, filters, etc...

I replaced a clear hose (I thought vacuum hose) from the carburetor to the fuel pump (This is NOT the main fuel line!!). The hose that was on there had green gunk in it and was very brittle. I replaced it with a new clear tube. This evening, I noticed that my new clear tube had gunk in it again down my the fuel pump. Is this normal?? Is it a vacuum hose? What is it??

I tried attaching a picture, but failed..:facepalm:

Ayuh,... That's a sight tube, that if the fuel pump diaphram rips, the spilt gas will be routed to the carb, rather than dumpin' into the bilge...

Ok... So, should the tube be clean? Or is it normal to have some what I call gunk in the new tube..

I wish I could figure out how to attach a picture.

They get dirty inside, doesn't hurt a thing as long as the hose isn't plugged up.
