Long story, but I now own a 1985 18' Wellcraft center console with a 115hp Merc. I haven't seen it yet. It has been sitting for the better part of 7 years, started 5-6 times. I know the things I need to do to get it running safely, but I've heard that if it has a fiberglass fuel tank the ethanol-blended gasoline sold in most states will eat the inside of the tank in-turn messing up the carbs/motor. Does anybody know if this is true or even if a 1985 18' Wellcraft center console has a fiberglass internal fuel tank? Thanks for your time.

Am concerned about this too. I own an '84 Wellcraft 200 elite w fiberglass tank. See BoatUS link below plus story pub'd in their monthly mag. Doesn't sound good. Spoke to my mechanic about it last week who took a far less pessimistic view (based on what, I don't know) Said chg fuel filter 2X / season. Article below contradicts that tho...
Good luck. (think we may need it)

I just talked to the service guys at Wellcraft...They said, "Wellcraft has never put fiberglass fuel tanks in any of their boats since they've been making boats." This is awesome news!

Hey...you're right. Thanks for the tip. Didn't believe it and was under wrong impression that tank was fiberglass. Called Wellcraft HQ and customer service guy confirmed all tanks were plastic of some type as you said.

One less thing to worry about... woohoo

Wellcraft had problems with mid-80's tanks leaking...

I have a 1986 180 Fisherman, Aluminum Tank, No leaks.
But it has been a pain with the new Ethanol fuel all kinds of crud coming out. I recommend the Racor 10 Micron filter be installed.
All around nice boat if its in any kind of condition.
