1985 XP150 intake question

The six check valves or recirculation valves (392988) that connect to the intake one for each cylinder, few questions.
1. Are they one way valves if so which way is flow, (from screw end to nipple or nipple to screw).
2. The ones I took out appear to be fine, they allow air to move both ways.
3. If it is one way whats in side is it a rubber diaphragm or a BB type stop.
4. Is there any way around them I am hitting my budgets end and at 15 to 20 a valve it's tight.
So any help would be great I have torn the whole motor down and rebuild from pistons up so kinda getting to the end, I know after all I have spent whats another $100, just that another $100.

If you check out ebay. I just picked up all six for 7.5 a piece. You might want to check it out. If you must use them, check them like manual says with alcohol and a syring.

The flow is from the intake towards the block (in other words from the screw end to the nipple). You should not be able to blow air in both directions.

I know what you mean about the $$$ for those things, I've spent a ton of money fixing a used engine I bought and had to get all new recirc valves - they guy I bought it from just used plain brass hose barbs.

Thanks for the answers guys and JK I checked ebay found them for the 7.5 sent the guy a message as he listed one and he said thats all he has so I will wait and see if more pop up there.

From screw end to nipple (crankcase to nipple).

No, those are flawed. Fuel/air flows one way only (as above).

3. If it is one way whats in side is it a rubber diaphragm or a BB type stop.

Inside is a flapper (rubber) type valve.

No, there is no way around them. A faulty valve or lack of a valve, causes one cylinder to run rich, the other lean (BOOM!
