My 1985 Yamaha ETXK 200 is getting intermittent power to the top left coil. (top R if your in boat facing engine) Wont fire at all when Idling down the "ICW" once she kicks in powering up on a plane, it catches n fires, trim up 1/4 the little Chapparal 198 CC shes attached to, really flys! 50mph easy. It has a racing foot with lowered pickup and bypass hoses W a racing prop.

I see the power probe to coil input wire light up on start up but no regular pulse or power to the coil at Idle. Spark tester dont light either (new plug, new coil) I traced it across the electrical J box and it turns into a blue wire that dissappears under the fly wheel. I havent tested the blue wire to J box yet, should I get voltage? Resistance? what? Its a "hall effect" right?

How do I get that wire to send power to the coil. Should I install a jumper across the J box? (the black block where all the wires meet)

no hall effect device on that engine.
that engine uses two power coils to charge the capacitors in the CDI and 3 pulser coils to discharge the caps when the flywheel inner magnets pass the coil.
I would test the peak output voltage of the pulser coils.
we dont use top right or left depending if your on the dock barking at the moon.
we use port or stbd bank.
1&4 test w/r-w/g
2&5 test w/b-w/L
3&6 test w/y-w/br
your looking fdor a minimum of 1.6V peak loaded at cranking/idle and 7Vpeak minimum above 1500 RPM.
port bank is 2,4,6 and stbd bank is 1,3,5.

Thanks for the voltages, that should help, do the pulse coils come apart seperately? are they under the flywheel too?

does anyone have a FREE wiring diagram? and what color wire starts with an "L"

I would like to see what "pulser coils" look like and where they are located. I dont have a manual for this engine, im looking for a way to get one other than the outrageous internet prices for a 24yr old engine.

Anyone got any links to free manuals?

Nothing in life is free, there are copy right laws for the manuals.
But there are some down loadable ones that go for around $10 out there if you look hard enough

L is the yamaha code for Blue. pulsers are all on the same trigger plate and not avalible seperatly.

Ahhh I was wondering about the single letter wire color codes. L = Blu

Well that makes alot of sense, it runs even worse at Idle like 2 cyls are intermittent misfiring besides #2, on occasion. I have changed the "junk" under a few flywheels on other O/B engine makes. Im looking for a big plate or coated coil with wires comming out of it ya? called a "trigger assembly"?

I Appreciate the help

So the yamaha Junction Box for the coils and wiring is binine? Its not like the mercury power control units or control boxes of other lg "johnnyrudes"? whats its function? a terminal strip?

I should stick to corporate jets, but I just cant....

(Anyone have an ETXK 200 Wiring diagram? I'll trade you for automotive diagrams/dwg.)
