1986 140 Remote Control Wiring Harness "Obslolete" Where to buy?--Found New & Used

I want to replace the remote control wiring harness on my 1986 V4 140 OMC part 0393129 but all supplies are showing it "obsolete."

Does anyone know of another manufacturer or source?

Look at the top of the page in the "Top Secret File" sticky, there is a list of salvage yards there, give some of them a call and see if they can help you out.

Thanks, but will rebuild my current one if I cannot find a new replacement. This part fits a lot of models. Weird it's not longer made by someone..

I have bought new obsolete at salvage yards, they will sometimes buy a dealers obsolete parts and resell them. Might be worth it to call a few and see what they have.

Check CDI electronics. They offer a lot of harnesses and i think they do rebuilds also.

You have the big red plug harness, so I am 99% sure ANY harness from remote control box to engine up thru model year 1995 wil work.
In 1996, they changed harness style.
I bet even the harness from smaller engines...70, 85, maybe even down to the 50HP level will work.

You have these colors/functions in that harness.

RED/purple, +12v HOT from starter solenoid/battery.
Purple, switched +12 V that is hot when key is on.
Black, engine ground
Black/yellow, engine kill circuit. Connected to black only when key is off.
Yellow/red, to starter solenoid small terminal pick circuit. Hot when key is in start position.
Grey. tachometer signal.
Purple/white, primer solenoid/choke. Hot when key is ON and pressed in.

I found both new and used harnesses. Ebay is the best place for used. Prices are half what the salvage yards want. Best search terms is "control box" with modifiers OMC, Johnson, Evinrude and Remote. I paid $100 for a complete working remote with harness (no cables). Salvage wanted $150 just for the harness.

I found a new harness as follows from Seaway Marine. This is not a plug for them, just FYI as this is the only NEW part supplier I could find.
