1986 140hp Johnson

The engine still runs but it makes a knocking sound. Any ideas on what would be causing it and how much to repair? :confused:

Depends on where the noise is coming from. The powerhead? Or is the noise traveling up the driveshaft and coming from the lower unit?<br /><br />Do you have the source pin pointed yet? Was it OK and then something happened and now theres a noise? If so what was the "something" (overheat, hit something ect)?

It appears to be coming from the powerhead. I took the lower unit off and when i spin it by hand, it sounds fine. So it is most likely from the powerhead.

It just started to knock one day and its been like that for 3 weeks. I never hit anything and i checked the overheat switch on the powerhead which sound when i ground it. Also there doesn't seem to be any signs of overheating on the powerhead.
