New water pump installed (just impeller, not housing) Engine has been idle for 10 years. Just getting it back online. Got the engine running and sounding good. Lower unit is in a 20 gal.bucket of water that only goes about 1/2' over the top of the highest water intake slot. (need lower unit deeper maybe??) Engine starts right up but I shut it down after about 15 seconds because there is no water coming out of pee hole. I took all rubber water hoses off and checked for debris but all clear. Before I check both thermostats and poppet valve and remove lower unit again, I was wondering how long I can keep motor running without seeing a pee stream? Am I just shutting it down too soon (15 seconds)? Thanks in advance for all replies. DG

The lower need to be on muffs or submerged above water pump housing....

I put a 33 gal garbage can under the engine and started her up, again. Now it's spitting water like an LA fire hose. Also, idling nicely. Putting in new spark plugs today. Top of oil reservoir / sensor cap separated from the screw base so I quess a new cap is in order. Over-all, so far so good, considering it has been sitting in my garage since 2005
