1986 170hp volvo penta water on dip stick

Good morning.Now i know why there is water on dip stick my brother in law told me that he ran without water or prestone in rad.He told me i have to change the head gasket and check if the block is not damage.Is he in the ball park?Engine out drive 290A.Thank you.

How long did the Bil run it with a Dry coolin' system,..??

How did you come about figurin' this all out,..??

What motor is this, a V6, I6,..??

If I were to take an educated guess, he's probably got a 171 which is the DOHC 4 banger with lots of expensive and NLA parts...
