Just replaced the oil pump and still have this damn leak. When i replaced the pump i added oil in the gas tank so the motor wouldnt overheat, waiting until the new oil pump filled the lines up.

When i run the motor and turn it off it now drips from the carbs somewhere, runs down to the bottom carb?, a slow drip too (combo gas/oil- green color). I cannot find anything on the oil lines that shows a leak so it has to be internal somewhere, maybe one of my carbs?

i crimped the oil reserve line at the bottom and held out for a few, then started up again. This morning when i checked it again i didnt see the drip coming from the carb so i know its not the oil pump.

Where do i begin?

So reading more into this it looks like i might be overfilling my tank in the motor, which is why the oil would be coming out of the lower right end of the carb.... how can i test the float sensor in the tank to see if its malfunctioning? If its not that could it be my oil control unit?

Do some searching for oil overfilling or testing oil system it has been posted many times.
Here is one close to your year http://www.yamahaoutboardparts.com/forum2/yamaha-1986-220hp-oil-pump-not-stopping-th15577.html

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Looks like he had a pump that didnt stop pumping, caused by a bad module.

My oil pump eventually stops when its filling up the engine oil tank. I havnt changed the oil filter from the main tank in 3 years but cannot see that being the problem (though im changing the filter as we speak)? If the filter clogged up then there would be no way for the oil to pump into the engine oil tank. Unless im wrong and pressure becomes a factor?

Could it be because i added oil into my gas, plus the oil thats in the tank, would cause it to bleed out the vent? FYI i added in a new oil pump and used a portable gas tank with oil to prevent the motor from over heating.

There is a pinhole vent on top of the engine oil tank wich im assuming is used to de-pressurize the tank when new oil is coming in. Could it be if thats clogged the added pressure would cause the oil to push into the vent?

Just looking at all options here...

Re: 1986 200HP Yahama Outboard Oil Leak HELP

I figured it out and wanted to let anyone know if they had the same issue. When i tool out the oil level sensor from the tank and threw it back in i noticed that my vent hole (top of the engine oil tank) was bubbling on the outside, meaning it was clogged.
So when the oil pumped into the tank it was building pressure, causing the oil to overflow out of the check valve. Something so simple...
