1986 22" sail master lower unit midsection

Hello i have a 1986 8hp johnson sail master I removed the lower unit no problem. But the middle spacer refused to come down the drive shaft is out it ain't that. The shift rod is out it ain't that. The mid section is separated by about 1/2" but no further you would think it should just drop off. Can the water tube possibly hold that midsection up

Question is there a 4th bolt a very long one up inside after removing the lower gear housing. Looking on the web it shows a midsection and a very long bolts but dosent show exactly where it goes
