Anyone know the CORRECT way to adjust the throttle linkage on a 1986 28 HP Evinrude? I know to set the cam follower between the two marks just as it starts to move,,,but this engine also has ANOTHER adjustment. It looks like the "fuel saver" linkage on the OLD ones. It allows the carb to open up without full igintion advance.
My clymer says to place the engine in forward gear and it should touch it's stop. If it doesn't your supposed to set it to full throttle and tighten down against stop. The only problem when I do this is that the cam follower won't touch the cam between the two marks  It just doesn't make sense to me!!!! please help. Thanks, -B-

Boltbreaker...after setting the cam follower roller between the two marks, shift the engine into forward gear and advance the throttle to WOT. Check the throttle plate is flat across the throat. If not, losen the throttle control rod collar set screw and adjust the throttle control rod back or forward till the throttle plate is level across the carb throat. Push the throttle control rod collar against the pivot pin and tighten the set screw.

Setting the cam follower just gets the timing in sync with the opening of the throttle plate. You set the throttle control rod at wide open throttle and the roller will be away from the cam.
