I have a 1986 Chris Craft Scorpion 187.,Had some fuel problems yesterday.Felt like the carb was flooding.Took out filter screen at carb and it was clean.Noticed a red wire off at the choke adjuster. There is a black wire screwed on just above, and this red wire is just a slip on female blade connector.Any one know what the red wire does?,and I used a plastic tie to make sure it stays on.Thank you in advance for help.

Dave.

Check that the red wire is hot with key on. If so it's probably your electric choke power supply. It's an electric heater that causes the choke to open.

I will check for voltage ,but that makes sense. We could smell a bit of gas, than a backfire, sluggish to say the least.I do remember that wire being on within the last two weeks or so while cleaning my spark arrester.Thanks.
