can i safely use the stator and flywheel off a 1979 45hp motor on a 1986 50? part numbers are the same, and it fits, but i want to make sure.
is this ok?
i bent the flywheel teeth off my old flywheel, so i had to use the flywheel and stator off a 1979 parts motor.
will my voltage be ok? can i ruin anything by doing this?

If the partnumber is the same YES they are interchangable.
Confirm that the motors have the same ign.system. CD, magneto or battery.
The inside innerrim of the flywheel have magnets and it is different depending on what kind of ign.system it has.

the flywheels had the same number inside, so i guessed they were the same. funny thing was the 45 and 50 flywheels looked the same, had the same part number, but the 45hp, was about 1/2" smaller in diameter, so i switched the stators as well.
thanks again.
now i just need to buy two coils:(
