1986 50hp coils.can i use cdi on points?

1986 50 hp. i have points and need a coil.
can i use the coils off a cdi unit? like the blue coils? or do i need to stick with the stocker replacements?
can i use any two wire coils?

I'm looking forward to the accurate responses to this question, but I will
add this;
PO of my motor used generic aftermarket coils and seemed to have decent
success. I just had to replace them because one went bad so I don't know
how long they lasted, but he was able to use them? Again, I want someone
with real knowledge to answer this so I can see about future needs because
I actually went with old coils from a spare motor I have (they're the originals
so they can't last much longer). Thanks for posting this.

No, you can not use coils from a CD unit. They are designed to operate at a much higher primary voltage (approx 250) than the battery ignition 12 volt coils.
