Just bought this motor off Craig's List,, Of course it has an issue that I think it is repairable. Motor starts fair and runs fine idles well. But I get exhaust smoke from under the hood ( cover ). Seems to be coming from the front lower as in below the Carb. It is a lot and very noticeable, yet not enough to stahl the engine.
I have been to another forum and it has been suggested that ,,( from the OMC PARTS MANUAL )

page 12 item #91 exhaust housing gasket
" " #70 exhaust housing cover= cracked or missing
" " #102 shift rod grommet

I can see that these could all be a possibility so my question is ,,, has anyone experienced this problem and is there a "most likely " scenario and could I maybe have a more serious problem.

These motors were made for sailboat people and since I have had nothing but fuel issues with 4 stroke small motors (imports) I thought I'd go back in time an fix myself with a dependable 4-stroke " Old fashion " outboard. these come with the charge system, long shaft with a rudder style foot. Any help /suggestions is appreciated. Chuck Lake Erie 222 O'day
