Ok so got the boat on the lake for the first time after the total rebuild... everything works great except 3 things.....

1) the tilt trim bleeds down ... got the new o rings and gonna reseal the lower valve body this week to fix that,.

2) when i was pulling the kids on the tube i swear i could hear a over heat alarm going off. I never changed the impeller or tstat. all ran great in the driveway. so im wondering did i make my tell taill to large? i have a 1/4 npt nipple sticking out of my casing. or was it because i was aat WOT and pulling my boat and my kid and a rope?

3) also discovered my choke power wire (green ) wasnt working so i narrowed it down to the the key switch no power when ya push it in with the key on so i dunno? I think im just gonna swap it out.

I have never rebuilt an outboard before, but I have done many 2 stroke engines like dirtbikes and 4 wheelers and snowmobiles. you said this was the first time on the lake since the rebuild and I know for sure you shouldnt be putting that kind strain on a fresh rebuild like pulling people on a tube. there should be some kind of break in period on a bike it was any where from 1-5 hours. This is possibly the reason it was over heating.

Also were you getting s good stream from the tell tail that would indicate your inpellar is no good?

hey thanks for the reply Jeremy.. i see that the first one was extremely misleading that is my fault.. I never rebuilt the engine never did anything to it really other than new plugs .....just a decarb and new fuel diaphram and fuel lines...

My choke wasn't working either...push the key in and out a bunch of times on the ignition switch...mine must have been corroded inside but this worked for me.

Was there a steady stream coming from the telltail? It would be a good idea to change the impeller anyway. it never hurts and is very easy. Follow the instructions at the top of the forum!

yea nice strong stream comming out ... my thoughts were if it was too much of a stream and not letting the water gather enough heat before it was discharged out of the tell tail... i plan on buying the whole housing kit from here and swapping it out i guess or do ya just swap the impeller and try to find the right gaskets for with it?

Im not sure on your motor. On mine I didnt have to change any gaskets. The seals were fine. I just popped out the impeller and put the new one in. Cleaned out any stuff inside the housing ofcourse.
