I believe they were usually fitted with Quicksilver Commander 2000 controls when new.
Should be able to use Commander 3000 also, as well as quite a few of the other brands.

I would contact the retailer you are going to purchase from, to make sure you get the correct one.

If you are talking about the pad on the lower support plate, that is there specifically to mount steering. If you want a little quicker and tighter steering, take off the engine cover and in front just below the airbox you will see another 3/8 hole. you can also hook steering cable to this hole. If you hook cable directly to either hole, be sure you have a proper swivel mount so you do not bend anything when tilting the engine and use a slightly longer bolt so the cable can slide up and down on it a little. Much better to run the cable through the tube (if provided) on the engine clamps and use an adapter bar to connect engine to cable.

the engine has a bar coming out from the other hole that you mention but i have no parts to hook my cable to that. what should i look to buy, and what would be the repercussions if i just hooked it to the holes that we mentioned instead of through the tube.

I have a set of controls for a 105 1978 motor. Would they work for him?

Re: 1986 85 hp force

I purchased a 1986 bayliner with a force 85hp. my question is how do i properly trim the motor. i was given two metal pins to use. also how do i lock the motor up to keep the prop out of the water when docked? I have a manual trim/tilt system. can find any info in the repair manual.
