My motor was stored in my shop on a motor stand for three months while I replaced my transom. Motor has not run well since I remounted. I is sluggish on take offs from idle. However, when I push in the primer switch on the keyswitch it takes off like it should. Once it gets up on plane it runs about 4200rpm. Thats about 800rpm's less than it always did before. If I push in the primer while running WOT it performs as before at 5000rpm's top end. Whem I let off of the primer it goes back down to 4200rpm's. Obviously it has something to do with the carbs or the primer mechanism. What are some possible problems? The only thing I can think of is gummed up carb jets. Is that possible and it still run 4200rpm's? It was stored on a stand tilted forward a little and the gas in the carburetors may have fouled the carb jets. This is a VRO motor that was converted to manual mixed fuel. Thoughts?

yes i think trying spray carb cleaner with ear muffs. to start. i for the last 45 years have turn the petcock off on disconnected the gas and let the engine run out of gas. then try to restart using choke to make sure the carbs are as empty as possible. never had a carb problem.

You have a gummed up carb, don't keep running it that way. Clean, and install new carb kits.
