I'm a tin boat person so this is a new venture for me.

A friend (at least I think so) gave me this boat and trailer. 1986 15' Bayliner with a 85 hp Force OB and a 9.5 hp Evinrude trolling motor.

There are some cracks in the transom gel coat and I assume glass. This indicates to me a failed transom and probably rot below.

My question is: Do I attempt to repair this boat or consider it a donor for my tin boat?

The trailer is a 1986 galvanized Calkins single axle that appears to be in fair to good condition. The tires should be replaced due to age.

The boat looks nice and it was just delivered today so I don't know anything else about it

He gave me the titles for both.

Thanks for whatever input you can give me.

throw away boat, 99.99% chance of rot in transom and floor. The 1980's were the worst for bayliner because they cut so much corners the floors rotted extremely easily unless it was garage kept. Also the force motor should be avoided. Find better friends😂.

I agree if there's cracks in the transom fiberglass the woods rotted under it, I had an 87 Bayliner, and it was just rotted everywhere. :( might be worth it to fix for yourself.....who are we to say what to do with your boat. But usually free boats cost the most

Thanks,

That's kind of what I was thinking. So far I only have the space it sits on invested in it and it looks like there is some hardware that I can probably remove and reuse.

I got a couple of portable gas tanks with it, fuel lines and bulbs etc. so I'll probably get something out of my time.

I think the dump will take it and I can use the trailer to transport it to the dump leaving me with a trailer.

Who knows, the trailer may fit under my tin Starcraft that now sits on a home made trailer. However the home made trailer has larger wheels that I like better.

Thanks again for the candid input.

StarTed if you are going to part out the engine PLEASE let me know. I am currently fixing up a 1985 Bayliner with the 85HP Force engine and am looking for original parts.

I'm quite sure that I'll be parting out the boat. The 85 hp Force will be surplus but I want to see if it runs. I touched the start on the key and the engine began to turn a fraction of a turn. That was good enough for me since I don't want to damage the impeller. I was surprised that there was still a battery in it and it has some charge. I was told that it hadn't been run for a couple of years.

I have a use for the 9.5 and some of the hardware on the boat.

I'll keep you in mind.
