Hello all, I am new to the forum and wanted to share my project with you guys. So far I have had the boat out a couple of times (last fall) and having a few engine problems, the boat seams to choke out or flood and dies if you try to throttle up, then has trouble starting back up. (of course the boat ran fine at home before hitting the water). Not sure which but I think the problem is in the carburetor. Also, the gas is at least a year old. The previous owner told me the tank holds 56 gal, and the gauge shows about half full. Should I drain the tank and start with fresh? Also, the boat has been winterized so I am going to have to wait until spring to mess with the engine I would think, unless someone has any ideas.

What has been done so far:

-I basically stripped the boat down to bones inside and out, removed all old seats and carpet.

-took out the bathroom/closet, make a lot more room in the cabin. I just fabricated a new seat and storage area in its place. I repainted the cabin with and check for wood rot all seems fine.

-Have been messing with the wiring which has been a nightmare due to the corrosion in the fuse block. May need to be replaced. The steering control cable is right in the way. IS this hard to take on and Off?

-Started on the seating area up top. I have seen pictures of cockpits of similar models on line with a u-shaped sitting area. I am attemting the custom upholstery my self.

I just made a big order online and I will post up pictures soon, and thought ideas would be great. I am kind if stuck on color schemes... I would like to replace or build new cabin door, anyone know where these might be found? Also were would I find the Vin/Model Number on the boat? I think it is a Bayliner Cierra 2150 or 2050, it is 21.5 ft long and the previous owner told me it was an 1986 model.

I will post some pictures very soon...

Welcome to iboats!

If the gas didn't have a stabilizer added, it might be causing the problem. For a quick & dirty test, put some of it in a clear container. If it's cloudy or a layer of water forms at the bottom after it sits, ditch it. Likewise, ditch it if it smells like paint thinner.

Moving the helm far enough to replace the fuse block shouldn't be too hard. Remove the wheel and you should find the bolts that fasten the helm to the instrument panel. Consider relocating the new panel a bit.

The HIN (hull identification number) should be embossed into the transom somewhere. The usual spot is the upper starboard side.
