1986 Century 6 Meter Is it gen 1 or 2

I am about to do an overhaul on my outdrive, I have not tor it down. If I have a 1986 Alpha 1 , would I be safe to say its a gen 1. The bellow kit seems straight forward but there seemed to be options for the shift cable. How can you tell the difference between a gen 1 and 2 set up ?
The serial number on my drive is A593939 (although it was hard to tell if the 5 was a 5 or 6)
