Recently pick up a 1986 200 hp Evinrude with 44.6 total hours since new. Had carb jobs done and replaced water pump.

It motor runs well without a load but will quit at 4,000 rpm every single time with a load. After restarting, the motor will run very rough for several minute, up to half hour, and may quite a few more times before ideiling smooth!

Fuel flow does not seem to be a problem.

Boat shop can't seem to fix it. Thanks for the ideas.

DR

Does your overheat alarm work? When the engine does this can you hold your hand to the heads for several seconds or are the engine heads to hot to touch? Are all the heads about the same temp to the touch? The engine may be overheating. If the heads are too hot to touch and if it appears that you have good water pressure, (good stream of water out the telltail at WOT) then you may have a thermostat problem or water restriction somewhere.

The motor does not seem to run hot and the water output at idle seems to be fine. I haven't tested the flow at upper rmp's with load.

How is the best way to test for water blockage?

Thanks

DR
