more info on the carbs, there are two differant sets of carbs, one number is a 397341,MX 10 BL the other is a 398212, MX 5 BL, no markings on the other two except the jets are different, two mid range read 16 the other two read 20, all low speed jets are 28, also is one set for port or starbord  and is the port side the starter side of the motor

The 397341 carb should be 28M low speed, 20M intermediate, 61D highspeed. The 398212 carb should be 28M low speed, 16M intermediate, 61D highspeed.

looking at a 1987 parts book, (yours is 1986)
i would set it up as follows
#28 idle air all carbs
#16 intermediate starboard
#20 intermediate port
-
#61D is listed as high speed.
-
you never said which high speed you had.
above is a set up for a 1987 140.

standing in back of the motor - looking to the bow of the boat
port is on the left side (starter/vro side)
starboard is on your right (control cable side)

2k, the high speed is a 61d, thanks to you and claton got the info correct, the motor is a 1986 but may have been late due to your carb #'s. this is a original motor, no rebuild, but does not have the s.l.o.w and only had the 3 wire vro. thanks both for info
