was doing some preventative maintainence on my motor today and found #3 from the top cylinder spark plug was crystal clean. i have a repair manual but i like getting tips from here. where should i start looking. im gonna swap some cables to make sure it aint a bad plug but i am not quite sure how to check for spark without a tester. can you do like a lawnmower hold the spark plug to the block. any help is appreciated

Better yet, grab an extra (spare) spark plug to put the plug wire on, and place that against the block, then try it, the motor may start, but don't be alarmed just shut it off once you get your results.
