I recently acquired an 86 gt 150. It has set for about 5 years, I was wondering if when I first try to start it if I should try it on the seafoam and gas mixture (1 can to 1 gal). I'm sure the carbs are pretty nasty from setting that long. I'm new to boating so I have one more stupid question. I was advise to remove the vro and do my own mixing, which I'm going to do.
The seafoam doesn't take the place of the 2 stroke oil in the 1 gal of mixture, does it?

Congrats on the new motor! Seafoam would probably be good but I think that 1 can to 1 gal is a little excessive. Depending on the size of your fuel tank I would probably use just 1 can of seafoam. You still need oil whether from the vro or premix. Good Luck!

the reason i said 1 can to 1 gal. is somewhere else in this forum that was the ratio given to de carb.

I'm sorry I didn't realize you were planning a full decarb. You might just try starting it up first. But if you are sure it needs it check the FAQ thread Decarbing Your Engine How And Why
