1986 I6 water pump base - new part problem

I noticed some milky oil/water mix being forced out the top vent on my 1986 90hp I6. First thing I wanted to replace was the water pump base and seals, so I ordered the whole kit from Iboats. Pulled the lower unit and pump assembly. The new water pump base is almost identical to the old, except for a thick lip on the bottom of the new pump base. The original had a thin lip that fit into a groove around the drive shaft bearing, but the new part has a thick one that doesn't allow the pump base to seat where it should. I cross-checked part #s before I ordered, so the pump base is *supposed* to be an identical match. Anyone run into this problem before?

I would direct the question to the store customer service and not here.

As for the oil/water coming out the vent, what vent are you talking about?
If its the vent on top of the engine, then that has nothing to do with the impeller in the leg.

I was referring to the vent hole on the lower unit with the screw in it, above the lube fill/drain plug. I had called Iboats yesterday, about all the person could do was confirm that the part # was supposed to be a direct replacement. Obviously it doesn't fit right, so I was hoping to find any other info that I could.
