Bought a Johnson 150 1986. The whole thing is painted gray. Under the flywheel, carbs, the whole freaking motor. The guy said it was from up north. Everyone paints the motors gray to prevent corrosion. I have never heard of that. Any thoughts.

I've seen MANY sailboats (diesel motors, but still) painted entirely for the same reason. I mean the ENTIRE engine to include hoses, wiring, etc. Not sure what's on your motor, but there's a product called "RustSeal" that's a paint designed to prevent rust/corrosion. Not a whole lot paint can "cover up" so if she's running right, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
