I have a 1986 johnson 140HP that i have just changed the starter motor. After the change, it would only click. While i was changing the seloniod a big spark came from the seloniod (forgot to undo battery) i finished replacing the seloniod and now when i turn over the key nothing. It will not even turn the motor. I get nothing, not even the click i was getting before. Can someone please help me. I will check back later. Please someone help. The battery shows 98 percent. I got no power at all.

Get a volt meter and see if you're getting voltage to the solenoid terminals. You should have +12 volts at the large terminal that connects directly to the battery +.

On the smaller terminals, they should read zero until you turn the key to the start position. Then one of them should read +12 volts or so.

If not - start checking connections and look for the fuse in the main wiring harness. Dont know where it is on yours though.
