1986 MERC 135 ADVICE

I AM LOOKING AT BUYING A 1986 MERC 135 DOES ANYONE HAVE ADVICE. IS THIS A WELL BUILT MOTOR THAT MAY BE WORTH BUYING EVEN AT 20 YEARS OLD?

I have an '86 150. Great running motor!!!<br /><br />Check it out before buying it though, check cylinder compression. All cylinders should be very close in compression readings.

diddo,<br /><br />Check compression, spark, lower unit lube (check for water intrusion, gear shavings), if the oil injection is still working make sure that the alarm module still operates properly which you will al least find out when you turn on the ignition key. You will hear the test status beeps. <br /><br />let us know...

Hey dan, i got a 87 135 merc. Great motor if everything checks out on it. Mine is on a 17' cajun and it really pushes that boat well, 56 to 57 with just me in it. But it comes down to checking compression like studlymandingo said. Just take it out if your buying with the boat and make sure it does alright. Most shops will test compression on them doesn't take long to do it. Around here most places charge around 20 bucks to check it out for u.<br /><br />Need anyother question just let us know

Guys is this the famous 2.0 liter block?<br />I have a 1993 135 and am very happy....2.0 liter block. <br />I looked at my manual and it only goes back to 1990 so I dont know if it is a diffenert motor or not.
