what is diff between a 9 amp stator and a 16 amp stator? meaning, why couldnt you use a 9 amp stator in lieu of a 16 amp stator? is it because of more elect components on one engine versus the other? thanks for info n advance. im just trying to understand the diff

Because the current demand would be too high and it would burn it up.

The larger stator is capable of damaging downstream components .The electrical system is designed to work with certain current flows and resistances and exceeding these limits can lead to burnouts unless the downstream components are protected from excessive flows by fuses. It's better to provide the lower rated stator.

Current is a function of voltage and load (resistance). So as long those two do not change, niether will the current. A prime example would be running a small 12v light bulb from several AA batteries hooked in series to create 12v and running the same light bulb off of a car battery. The light will operate the same in both scenarios. Just because the car battery is capable of delivering more current does not mean that it will.

Lamination thickness and more windings...The older engines you cannot install a 16 amp stator as it will rub flywheel internally as its not deep enough. Both the 9amp and 16amp use the same rectifier and resistance to overcharging is supplied by the battery.....
