1986 Merc 25 hp lower unit gear lube

Will Mobil 1 synthetic 75w90 work as a good gear lube for the lower unit on this engine? Thanks for any info.

If it is labeled for outboard gearcase use I would say it is okay. Otherwise, no. Stick with oil/grease made for that application.
