1986 Merc outboard stall at throttle up

My 1986. 70 horse outboard runs fine going out of the harbor then when I pick up the throttle it stalls and will not restart it also makes a kind of a muffled rattle sound before it stalls it does not appear to be overheated it has a great water flow. It will restart after about an hour ?? Please help new to this boat

Try opening the low speed mixture screws 1/4 turn at a time and test again.

I took it in the shop and they said I have the wrong stator ...they are going to replace it with a new one the right one and put in a new power pack.
