Hello,
I have a 1986 Mercury 35 hp on my boat. I have been having problems with it at idle. As long as I keep pressure on the fuel bulb it stays running, once I let off it stops until the engine warms up. Also, it surges once in a while when it is at full throttle, and loses power then regains power. I noticed that the fuel line has some cracks in it and I was going to replace it along with the primer bulb and the bayonette. So here comes the questions.. If it was the fuel pump causing this wouldn't it just fail? This has been an ongoing issue for a while now. Wouldn't the cracks in the fuel line cause some sort of vacuum leak? Could the primer bulb be wore out also? I also noticed the gas line is only a 5/16. I was going to replace it with a larger 3/8. I saw a full assembly on ebay that comes with the fuel line, primer bulb, and bayonette. How does the bayonette connect to the motor? It looks like it just clips on? Is this an easy connection for someone who is not a mechanic? I also attached a link to the setup.
Thank you so much guys!
