I'm currently looking at a 86' Searay Pachanga 22' with a 350 V8 that was installed in 2000. Is there anything particular about this boat that I should look for? Of course I'll have the survey done but was just wondering if there is anything specific for this model. Thanks for any help you can send my way.

kozman01,

That is a good boat, you're doing ther right thing by having it surveyed.

However, I think that boat is a bit on the underpowered side with a 5.7L.

I have a friend that owned one for several years, however, his was a 7.4L (454). His was plenty powerful, however he always complained that the Alpha 1 drive was-marginal.

If you want "go-fast" look for another one. If you run it hard, expect problems with the Alpha 1 drive.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to go and check this thing out this weekend. I own a speed bike and a big SUV and I enjoy taking it easy on my vehicles, I will do the same with the boat. I find that things last a long time if you don't ride them too hard. I just really like the looks of the boat. Thanks again for the input.

Those Pachangas were nice boats. They were cored to save weight, so make sure there's no rot in the stringers or transom. The small block is plenty of power for them. I'd expect it to run in the low to mid fiftys. As a comparison, my 23' Wellcraft Nova is a LOT heavier (4500#) and runs 45 MPH with a 2000 Merc. 5.7 EFI (stock).
