Can anyone tell me if there is supposed to be a little play between the prop and the spindle? There is the same amount of play in the flat kind of cover at the bottom of the prop with splines also. It's not too much, maybe a 1/16" not quite 1/8". Its the same amount of play for both things which makes me think that's OK? Is it a grease thing? The shaft/spindle coming out of the bottom of the engine is as tight as a drum and nothing looks worn. The prop splines don't look worn to me, but what the heck do I know? The guy helping me said to check it out. Since I don't know what is "normal" for Suzuki, or any prop for that matter, I figured you'd be the guys to ask.
Thanks

Re: 1986 Suzuki 115 play in prop?

well, I think I just found the answer to my own question. I went back outside and put everything back together and didn't put the nut on. The prop was still loose. I then put on the nut and tightened it and poof! the prop had no play in it. I noticed when I took the nut off, it wasn't very tight. I'll have to keep an eye on it as we use it, maybe there's a reason it was loose, but I'm not going to read too much into it and enjoy the boat! Now onto some minor electrical problems....
If there's any suggestions about the prop I should know about, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

You do have a cotter pin in it, right?

yes, I do have a cotter pin in, but you must know me, I've been known to leave little details like that out! I may put a new one in though because I have absolutely no idea how old or how many times it's been bent.
Thanks for the reply.
