Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the forum have found this to be the best and most helpful forum on the internet. I have a 1986 John/Rude 140hp that was sitting up before
E10 was the "norm". Anyway, I went through the whole motor, used lots of Seafoam, cleaned the carbs , water pump, lower unit lube, ect. and even replaced the fuel line. Had her out four times and she is running like a champ.
The VRO pump is original. Will E10 effect the rubber in the pump like that of the hoses. Are the rebuild kits/new pumps alcohol resistant? Also what about the Primer solinoid (sp)? I hate being towed. I also use Startron to help with the E10 issues. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks,

That fuel pump is now 23 years old. It should have been changed by now no matter what fuel your using.

Even though it doesn't really matter in your case, I think the VRO2 replaced the VRO so it could use 10% E. I believe there were kits that upgraded the VRO.

change all fuel hoses to alcohol resistant, and you should be good to go. fuel pumps can last a long time.

Thanks,
This E10 stuff had me a bit concerned. I'll may go ahead and change it out during the off season anyway even though it may not be nesasary. That way I'll have a spare on board along with the ignition parts, prop, nut, thrush washer, cotter pin, fuel line, primer bulb, ect., ect...

Much Appreciated,
