While performing maintainance on a 1987 1.6 OMC seadrive, there was a fuel leak noticed at the fuel primer solenoid. It would only leak on start up when the key was pushed in to activate the fuel primer solenoid. It would shoot a stream of fuel from the red lever located on the fuel primer solenoid. The red lever was found to have a split down the side of it. The part number listed in the OMC original parts catalog is #397909 . That is for the whole assembly. The solenoid works properly it just has the leak do to the split. The question is can you just buy the red lever and related components? Is there a kit to repair the parts that are damaged or a rebuild kit? I do not want to buy the whole assembly only if I have to. If there is any of these options to repair it, does any one have any part numbers or where to buy these components. Any help is appreciated.

There is an upgrade that replaces it. It contains a valve that you can attach Engine Tuner and Storage Fogging Oil to. You don't have to if you don't want to, but that would be the way to get just that lever. Any Johnson/Evinrude dealer can help you with that. Most will have it in stock.

That sounds good. I think that will be all that I will need, is just that part. I will try to get the part and let you know how it turns out. Did that part have problems over the years because it seems that it may have happened to more then a few people? Do you know what the part number is for those components? Thanks for the help.

Well I went to the parts store and they had the part in stock. The part is called a preventive maintainance valve as it is written on instuctions. The part number is 175158. I installed the part in about 10 minutes. The directions were well written and easy to follow with pictures. The directions also said that this valve supersedes the procedure to fog or to spray tune up fluid into the engine for a decarb etc. that is written in any old manuals. Well thanks for the help.
